Graphic distortion - new machine - HELP

I need some advice - I have a new machine (Acer Aspire X3300) with the following specs: AMD Phenom II X4 925 Quad processor 6GB RAM, 1 TB HD Nvidia GT 220 Graphics card I have Cooker x86_64 installed at present with the nvidia proprietary driver. Under Windows 7 Ultimate there are no issues. Under Cooker I get inconsistent results - randomly, the X server will lock up at 100% CPU and the only way I can stop it is to kill -9 the X server - Other times, I get strange graphic corruption of the display (see pictures) - which experience tells me this is more hardware problem than software - although, as said above - Windows 7 works without a problem. So my questions for all the experts here are: 1) Is this indicative of a hardware problem or software? 2) If software, any tips on tweaking the xorg.conf?? FYI, I have another machine (HP Pavilion) also running same Cooker x86_64 and NVidia GeForce 9600 GS card - without this problem. So any help would be welcome! Thx, R.Fox PS: Bigger pictures availabl
